PA Youth Contest Infromation
Pennsylvania Guernsey Queen
- The PA Guernsey Queen represents the PGBA at the AGA National Convention and various state events and shows. Contestants must complete the AGA Queen Application and send it to Melissa Kohler by April 10 and attend the PGBA Annual Meeting in April. As part of the contest, each candidate will be introduced at the Awards Banquet, answer an impromptu question, participate in the public speaking contest, and present the speach at the Junior Awards Breakfast. The PA Queen is crowned during the Junior Awards Breakfast at the PA Annual Meeting. The PA Guernsey Queen will receive an AGA National Convention ticket package.

Pennsylvania Outstanding Youth - Candidates must complete the AGA Outstanding Youth application and bring it to the PA Annual Meeting. Interviews are held Friday afternoon. The winner will be announced during the Junior Awards Breakfast on Saturday. The winner of the PA Outstanding Youth contest receives an AGA National Convention ticket package.

Outstanding Boy & Girl Application - Each year the PJGBA recognizes the accomplishments of our members under the age of 16 through the Outstanding Boy & Girl Contest. To participate, please email Melissa Kohler by April 10 with your intention to compete & to schedule your interview. Contestants must complete the application and bring it to the PA Annual Meeting. During the meeting, contestants will be interviewed Friday afternoon. The winners will be announced during the Junior Awards Breakfast on Saturday morning. Winners will receive a $50 award.

Outstanding Boy & Girl Application

Public Speaking & Extemporaneous Speaking Contests -
There are three age-group categories in the prepared Public Speaking contest and in the extemporaneous contest. The winners at the PA Annual Meeting advance to the national contest and receive a ticket package for the AGA National Convention. Participants much bring the completed AGA contest forms to the state contest.

Folding Display Contest -
Put your creativity to work preparing a folding display that promotes Guernseys and the Dairy Industry! Participants need NOT be present to enter, the display may be shipped to the PA Annual Meeting for judging. Participants much bring the completed AGA contest forms to the state contest.

Junior Production Awards -
Production awards are presented at the Junior Awards Breakfast during the PA Annual Meeting. To enter, please complete the application and send it to Jim Trotter by March 31.

National AGA Youth Awards -
Award information and applications are available on the American Guernsey Association's Youth page. Applications for Queen, Youth, Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and the Folding Display contest must be submitted to Melissa Kohler (see contact info below) instead of the AGA so they can be considered in the state contests held during the PGBA Annual Meeting. State winners applications will then be forwarded to the AGA for the national contests.

Quiz Bowl Teams
Pennsylvania sponsors a Junior and a Senior quiz bowl team for the AGA National Guernsey Convention each year. Team members are selected through an individual competition on Friday afternoon at the PGBA Annual Meeting in April. The PA competition consists of a paper quiz and buzzer round questions. Youth interested in trying out for the team should study current breed and industry publications such as Hoard's Dairyman and the Guernsey Breeders' Journal.

Ag Progress Days
The PA Junior Guernsey Breeders' largest fundraiser is their milkshake stand at Penn State Univeristy's Ag Progress Days every August. The youth work in the stand dipping ice cream, mixing shakes, and greeting the crowds of customers. The three day event offers a great deal of fun and fellowship. All Guernsey youth (and their friends & family) are encouraged to lend a hand. More help is always welcome!

Pennsylvania State Dairy Show
During the PA State Junior Dairy Show, Guernsey youth from across the state meet to renew friendships and exhibit quality Guernseys. The Pennsylvania Junior GBA sponsors several events throughout the weekend. A pizza party and state meeting is held on Friday evening. The class winner awards are presented by the PJGBA during the Junior Show on Saturday. The top placing Guernsey exhibitor in the Youth Showmanship contest receives a savings bond. Last, but certainly not least, all Guernseys exhibited in both the PA Junior Dairy Show and the Junior All-American receive a $50 rebate for the PJGBA.
