2008 Blue Halter Sale Averages $3,308

The 2008 Blue Halter Sale set a new record with a sale average of $3,308 on 47 animals. The fine consignments, large crowd, and lots of phone interest contributed to the record setting day including 2 animals topping the $10,000 mark.

The 2007 Reserve All-American Spring Calf topped the sale with a closing bid of $13,300. Daniel St. Pierre of Berwick, Maine placed the final bid for Flemingdale Sunrise Vanity. Contenders were John and Bonnie Ayars and Dr. Kenny Manion of Ohio. Vanity was consigned by her breeder, Chris Fleming of New York.

Bidders showed plenty of interest in the opportunity for Pick of the Heifer Barn at Snider Homestead Farm in New Enterprise, PA. With a closing bid of $11,000, the partnership of Don Lakey and Brandon Grewe of Wisconsin has 30 days to select one of the heifers from the farm. Frank Faria of California and Morey Miller of Connecticut were the contenders.

The Guernsey Gold consignment Maplehurst Skipper Brooke from the Maplehurst Farm in Lynden, Ontario sold for $7,900. Erica Showalter of Whispering Pines Farm in Cambridge, Ohio placed the final bid.

The sale was managed by the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders' Association. Mike Weimer called the sale, and Dave Smith read the pedigrees. Jim Trotter, Dave Trotter, and Blaine Crosser worked the ring. The fitting crew was lead by Chris Reichart. John and Patty McMurray clerked the sale.
